Transcript of Tasting Notes for Villiera Wine Estate Rose Brut Tradition Cap Classic
This is a pink sparkling wine from South Africa. It’s from the Villiera Wine Estate, run by the Grier family - a very prestigious winemaking family.
It’s a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which is the traditional Champagne blend. The Pinot Noir is pressed very lightly so, although it is a black grape, no colour is put into the wine from the Pinot Noir. The colour actually comes from a little bit of the Pinotage red wine. Really, it is a Champagne made in South Africa, so we can’t call it that. It’s a Chardonnay-Pinot Noir made in a traditional method with the second fermentation happening in the bottle. It’s got really fresh flavours. The bubbles are vibrant - there’s lots of raspberry in there.
This is a really nice pink bubbly, great as an apperitif or a party wine, but would also be very good with smoked salmon - great Champagne breakfast. It's got a touch of sweetness from the raspberry so it could be had with foie gras or with desserts - a lovely wine.
