Transcript of Tasting Notes for Villiera Wine Estate Merlot
This is a South African Merlot. A medium bodied wine with lots and lots of fruit. It’s oaked aged for 12 months and it’s from the Stellanbosch region. It’s much more powerful than a lot of Merlots.
It’s got really green bramble aromas, quite herbaceous - a bit grassy and full on fruit. There are hints of vanilla, cedarwood, red and black berry fruits. It’s just quite delicious. There’s quite a bit of complexity in there which I think a lot of people don’t expect from a straight varietal Merlot.
This is a wine that goes well with food but really good on its own. Fantastic with a cheeseboard, just contemplating the world. I really like this Merlot. It’s got the complexity to give you the depth and to be able to go with food but at the same time quite simple and easy drinking. It’s the best of both worlds. Fantastic red.
