About Us
Meet the Vinbiz Team!
Elly
Elly’s love of wine started when she worked at Majestic Wine Warehouses more years ago than she cares to admit. Since then she has tried to learn and taste as much as possible direct from wine producers and she has a particular interest in wines that completely characterize the land, traditions and people that created them. She has a one track mind: if you recommend a TV series to Elly, guaranteed she will be thinking about the perfect wine to enjoy while watching it! Elly’s amibition is to taste a champagne from every producer (there are over 16,000) and her favourite food to enjoy with champagne is fish, chips and mushy peas. Her favourite wine changes on an hourly basis but she definitely has a taste for the unusual and surprising.
Steve
Steve has a passion for travel and discovering the “real” experience of his travel destinations particularly the wine and gastronomy. As a supporter of Welsh Rugby and Everton football club, he is used to disappointment and is a “glass half empty” type of guy which means, as a wine buyer, he has a very acute ability to detect any slight imperfections in the wines that he tastes. It takes a lot to impress Steve which provides Vinbiz with exceptional quality control. Steve’s favourite wine experiences are where the expectation was low but the taste was exceptional – like the Tavagnacco Pinot Grigio which astounded him with the depth of flavour in what he usually considers as a rather disappointing grape variety. His preference is for full-bodied, complex and refined reds.
Graham
Graham was jealous of all the wine tasting Elly had to do in her role at Majestic and so he got a job at Threshers and from that point it became inevitable that Vinbiz, a company dedicated to sourcing great wines and creating excuses (Sorry, I mean events!) to enjoy these wines, would eventually be founded. Graham is very much a people person and once he discovers a great tasting wine he is desperate to share the experience and all the information with everyone and anyone who’ll listen. Unfortunately his enthusiasm for the wine experience does mean he can forget some vital information, like the fact that you can buy the wine from him – it’s a good job that the wine is so good that most people will ask him where they can get it! Graham’s preference is for Spanish wines: these wines provide massive diversity even amongst neighbouring bodegas, they have their own personalities (as do the makers!) and this really appeals to Graham’s very personable character.
